WE THANK Mr Henry Tay Choon Chua for his feedback ("Why can't police take action against cab fare evaders?"; Forum Online, last Wednesday).
Currently, the failure to pay taxi fares is dealt with under the Public Transport Council Act.
Under this Act, taxi drivers may seek recourse on the unpaid fares from their taxi company. The taxi company may also work with the Public Transport Council and the Land Transport Authority to take appropriate action.
When the police receive calls for assistance on such cases, the officers will take down the identities of the parties involved, and advise the taxi driver to seek recourse as provided for under the Public Transport Council Act.
