[Straits Times] On Facebook

Is there a lack of neighbourly bonding in Singapore? If so, what can be done to change this?
Everyone is really busy. People leave home early and get home late. They have very little time to spend with friends and family, what more with neighbours.

You and you alone can promote bonding. No outside help or push is needed; it just boils down to the individual.
For instance, if a neighbour has an old mother, help by giving vitamins. Help if you are able. Be friendly, and give a smile.

Organise more interesting events instead of the usual residents' committee block parties.
An interesting event could be a movie screening in the neighbourhood park, with some food stalls on the side. Neighbours will sit around and enjoy a movie, and slowly, interaction will come.

People just need to smile more and be friendly, that's all. Singaporeans don't smile enough.
