THE Government has encouraged the elderly to plan for their retirement by having sufficient funds.
The Supplementary Retirement Scheme (SRS) is one such scheme that aids this. However, the money in the SRS attracts a very low interest rate.
It would be risky if the money were invested in shares or equities.
I urge the Government to allow the money in SRS accounts to be invested in safer instruments such as bonds, fixed deposits or insurance-linked products wherein the principal sum is guaranteed or protected.
