THE SMRT bus service 857 cited by Mr Kuek Xiu Hao ("Bus service in need of improvement"; last Saturday) is indeed due for improvements.
The improvements, which will include the deployment of double-deck buses in the next three months, will be made to address loading issues encountered by passengers who use service 857.
Data gathered daily by the SMRT bus operations team has indicated that the route would benefit from a boost in capacity as each double-deck bus can carry around 50 per cent more passengers, compared with the single-deck 12m-long bus.
The SMRT team monitors service levels of its bus services closely with an eye to improving service and reliability.
