[Straits Times] Offer was to upgrade plan, not recontract: Singtel

LAST August, we launched a range of Combo Plans which provide mobile customers with additional talk time and SMSes, as well as access to Singtel's premium Wi-Fi network ("Forced to recontract to suspend line" by Mr Chin Yew Hung; last Thursday).

Available at over 200 hot spots, the Wi-Fi service provides five times the speed of regular Wi-Fi, and customers on the Combo Plans enjoy unlimited data usage until July 31 this year, after which it will be capped at 2GB.

When Mr Chin contacted us to suspend his line, our customer care officer told him that his old plan had been phased out and suggested that he upgrade to a Combo Plan.

This is to ensure that when Mr Chin decides to reactivate his line, the plan is relevant and services are available.

Mr Chin was under the impression that this would mean he would need to sign a new contract.

We have since contacted Mr Chin and clarified that he can upgrade his plan and that this would not affect his existing mobile contract. The contract end date remains the same.

We apologise for the misunderstanding and will work on further improving our communication in future.
