Kind and careful bus driver

ON March 22, my wife and I were on our way home from church at around noon when we experienced much politeness and kindness from the driver of SBS Transit Service 293.

He not only greeted us cheerfully, but was also careful to make sure that we - old folks who are both 80 this year - were safely seated before he drove on.

When it was time for us to alight, he made sure that the bus was close to the kerb so that my wife, who is somewhat handicapped, was able to get off easily.

We need more drivers like him.

Proactive Singtel employee

LAST month, my mother informed me that our home phone line was not working. I called the Singtel helpline and was attended to by Mr Victor Omoni.

I was at work at the time, so he offered to call my mother's cellphone to guide her through the steps to troubleshoot the phone line.

However, he did not manage to do this, as my mother had to go out for an appointment. Later that afternoon, Mr Omoni called me to say that as my mother was still not home, he would arrange for a technician to go to my home that evening to fix the phone line.

I appreciate his kindness and initiative. I hardly come across customer service staff with such a proactive attitude.

Exceptional care for father

MY FATHER was admitted to Changi General Hospital on Jan 1 for 72 days.

I thank the staff, especially the nurses, doctors and physiotherapists, who took exceptional care of him during his stay.

The nurses at Ward 28 were gentle, kind and helpful. They were empathetic, and consoled my mother and me when my father lost his battle with his illness.

The doctors were also professional and patiently explained each stage of the treatment process. They, too, were empathetic, and ensured my father remained comfortable and pain-free during his last days.

Grateful for help all round

MY HUSBAND, a member of the pioneer generation, and I were in the priority queue to pay our last respects to Mr Lee Kuan Yew at Parliament House on March 26, at around 10pm.

My husband was recovering from flu at the time and fainted after almost three hours of waiting.

Fellow Singaporeans rallied to help prevent my husband from falling and hitting his head.

An elderly man used a piece of cardboard as a fan, and a young female medic gave my husband oxygen and medical attention. Her gentleness, calmness and competence put my husband and me at ease.

An ambulance arrived in less than 10 minutes and took us to the Singapore General Hospital (SGH).

I thank everyone who helped us from the moment my husband started to lose his balance.

Special mention goes to medic Ian Tan, the ambulance driver, and Dr Low from the SGH's accident and emergency department, as well as his supervisor.
