SINGAPOREANS should respect the wish of our founding father, Mr Lee Kuan Yew, to demolish his house ("Mr Lee adamant about having his house demolished"; Tuesday).
To attempt to keep the house at 38, Oxley Road is to ignore and disregard his wish, and the wishes of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and his siblings.
This is not the way to repay them for their excellent service in leading the country.
I suggest that we, instead, focus on replicating the residence in a selected museum.
What we need to reproduce is the important memory of Mr Lee - the way he lived his life and how Singapore history was shaped in the house. This is what is valuable to future generations of Singaporeans.
With the blessing of PM Lee's family, we could attempt to replicate the interior of the house, conserving and preserving every piece of furniture, and ultimately transferring and displaying them in a new home.
