THE Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA) requires childcare teachers to have a Diploma in Early Childhood Teaching in order to be accredited.
The majority of Chinese teachers undergo training at KLC International Institute, an accredited training agency for this course. Upon completion of the course, the ECDA recognises them as trained teachers.
Why then does the Ministry of Manpower put such teachers under the unskilled category, which warrants a levy of $700?
Although the KLC course falls short of a few months of what the ministry requires, it is a recognised diploma in order for one to be a childcare teacher.
With the bid to attract more childcare teachers to ease the shortage in this industry, shouldn't there be more alignment? Let us not make it even harder than it is for childcare centre operators and teachers.
