THE Smart Nation initiative is a smart move for Singapore to stay ahead of the curve ("S'pore offers to be test bed for urban solutions"; Tuesday).
It will create new opportunities and innovations, attract talent and create jobs.
However, we must also ensure that the platform has sufficient bandwidth capacity and is mobile-friendly, as most of us use smartphones.
I recently tried to apply for a senior concession card online.
My smartphone photo of my identity card was rejected because it was more than 1MB in size. I had to abort the application process.
Shouldn't government agencies offering electronic services ensure sufficient bandwidth and capacity to process information and e-files from mobile devices?
This is a basic requirement if we want to embark on the road to a Smart Nation, and we should get it in place before inviting tech entrepreneurs to use Singapore as a test bed.
