SINGAPORE is mourning the loss of a very great leader in the country's history - former Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew.
Singapore's extraordinary success story could not have happened by chance. It is the result of Mr Lee's leadership and his team of able ministers that moved the populace to embrace meritocracy and the value systems of harmony among the communities, diligence and confidence to achieve success.
His style of leadership may not have appealed to all, but what cannot be denied is that the man delivered a quality of life to his people that many countries in the world can only hope for.
Every Singaporean has a roof over his head, no one is denied medical care in modern healthcare facilities and education in fine schools and universities, and the Singapore brand today attracts foreign investors in droves to our shores, even as it helps local businesses grow internationally.
Singapore is, thus, fortunate to have been led by Mr Lee.
My family and I are deeply grateful to him, and will forever remember him for all he did for Singapore.
