I WAS surprised that a fire engine got stuck at a tiled open area in front of VivoCity mall ("Fire engine needs rescuing"; last Tuesday).
I wonder how such an incident could have happened, especially since Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) personnel should have known there would always be a fire engine access area at every commercial and residential property. This access allows fire engines to enter the premises to fight fires.
I do not know why the fire engine at VivoCity had not used the usual access. It was fortunate that it was there for a fire safety inspection and not to fight a fire. In an emergency, property could have been damaged and lives lost.
Perhaps the SCDF could explain the oversight.
