I WHOLEHEARTEDLY support Speaker of Parliament Halimah Yacob's call to Singaporeans to spend the Aug 7 to 10 holiday weekend in Singapore ("Stay in S'pore for nation's 50th: Halimah"; last Monday).
To do so would be a fitting tribute to our founding fathers, especially former prime minister Lee Kuan Yew, who has been pivotal in our nation's success story.
Singaporeans from all walks of life should demonstrate to the whole world their allegiance and gratitude for the wealth, peace and security made possible by our visionary leaders, past and present.
Because of good, honest and strong political leadership, our past and present generations have been endowed with a much cherished legacy.
So let us all stay at home on this long August weekend, and reflect on our nation's momentous achievements.
