MR PAUL Chan Poh Hoi questioned if we can cut water use and achieve the 140 litres-per-day goal without jeopardising cleanliness ("Save water but set realistic goal in hot, humid S'pore"; April 4).
My household has four adults and two children, and our per capita water consumption per day is 115 litres.
We live in a 320 sq m house, use rainwater to water the garden, and laundry water to wash the external areas and flush the toilets.
We wash laundry and dishes in a single load, and our washing machine is front-loading, because this is supposedly more energy- and water-efficient.
Because of the dust, the floors are mopped every day. I wash my car only once every two months.
When we built the house, we kept the number of bathrooms to a minimum, and selected water-efficient cisterns.
We still bathe once or twice a day, and we rarely eat out.
There is still room for improvement.
