LAST Saturday's carnival at Anglo-Chinese School (Barker Road) taught me, a student there, something about paying it forward.
I received the carnival tickets from my teachers way before Chinese New Year, but I simply kept them in my bag for a very long time. It was only upon our principal Peter Tan's reminder that I realised I should have tried harder to sell the tickets.
The school had given us ample time to sell the tickets, but I was not enthusiastic about the carnival, and was too lazy to try selling the tickets.
It was only when Mr Tan came under fire for seemingly pressuring students to sell the tickets that it dawned on me that the tickets were our responsibility, as it had been for our predecessors at the school ("Carnival tickets: Students feel sales 'pressure' "; last Saturday).
It is because of them and their fund-raising efforts that my friends and I are now able to enjoy our school's facilities, such as the swimming pool, the sports hall, and tennis and futsal courts.
As students of the school, we should now do our part to pay it forward for the future generations of ACS boys.
