FORMER Malaysian prime minister Mahathir Mohamad said Singapore has no racial issue ("Lee Kuan Yew was 'kiasu', says Mahathir"; Sunday).
He is correct because Mr Lee implemented meritocracy across races while Dr Mahathir implemented meritocracy within a race.
As a former Malaysian who now holds Singapore citizenship, I saw both systems at close range and made the decision to leave Malaysia at the age of 18, to go to either Australia or Singapore - I chose Singapore.
Like many citizens, I am thankful and grateful to Mr Lee for his vision, leadership and wisdom. We will honour his legacy and do our best going forward.
