[Straits Times] Singapore football in a shambles

WITNESSING the recent performances of the Singapore Under-22 and Under-23 squads made my heart ache.

There seems to be no plan, no proper management of players and no motivation.

At this rate, I see no possibility of Singapore even being in the finals of the SEA Games this year.

All the teams from countries that only a few years back were considered minnows are playing much better and more determined football than Singapore.

Laos and the Philippines have shown that they are becoming forces to reckoned with.

The only saving grace are the LionsXII, who are punching above their weight. But, as they are a team with mixed-aged players, they cannot represent Singapore as a group.

The Football Association of Singapore really needs to tackle this issue quickly, or it will be seeing more empty seats at the stadiums.
