Help for visually impaired on trains
I APPLAUD the extra mile a staff member at Buona Vista MRT station went recently to guide a visually impaired woman in boarding the train.
The staff member ensured the woman was properly seated before leaving.
Later, as the woman prepared to get off the bus, I asked if she needed help, but she declined and alighted on her own.
For the safety of all commuters, perhaps train operators could explore providing assistance to the visually impaired during peak hours when they board or alight from trains and enter or leave the stations.
Station staff can guide visually impaired commuters to board trains and to be seated safely.
The staff can then alert other staff at the stations where these commuters will be alighting, so that staff there can be on hand to provide assistance.
Commuters with normal vision should also step up to lend a hand where possible.
In this way, we can build a more inclusive society.

Poor mobile cover along island fringe
I HAVE been living in the Sembawang Straits Estate for the past 12 years.
From Day 1, we have been experiencing extremely poor signal receptions on our mobile phones and, at times, no coverage at all.
Whenever I am near the beach, my phone's service provider will often switch to Malaysia's Maxis, and I will be charged overseas rates when I use my phone here.
This has caused a lot of inconvenience to my family and to all other residents in the area whose mobile plans are with Singtel.
I hope the Infocomm Development Authority can look into this matter.
With advanced technology these days, such poor coverage is not acceptable.
