[Straits Times] Standardise taxi flag-down fares

FLAG-DOWN fares for premium and non-premium taxis should be standardised to prevent confusion among passengers.

When a price is fixed for premium cabs, it is up to the taxi company to decide which type of vehicle to use and to peg the cost of it to the flag-down fare.

Currently, taxi companies fix the fare according to the type of vehicle used. If this is allowed to continue, then there will be new flag-down fares whenever cab companies buy new and better premium cars.

I am sure that what most passengers want is to get from location A to location B in the shortest time possible, in cool comfort.

In a small country like Singapore, where rides are of short distances, it is unlikely that passengers are looking for more luxury in their rides.

Also, premium cabs and non-premium cabs should have distinct colour codes so that it is easy to differentiate between them.
