[Straits Times] Two ways to save water in public loos

I HAVE two suggestions on how to save water in public toilets ("Cherishing every precious drop"; March 19).

First, phase out automatic flushing because, many a time, such systems waste a lot of water because of faulty or over-sensitive sensors.

Second, phase out the push taps that are common in public toilets as they let the water run on for too long, sometimes long after one has finished washing one's hands.

Government departments and statutory boards could set the example by doing away with automatic flushing and such push taps.

Every drop counts and we should not allow water to go down the drain without doing anything about it.
