[Straits Times] My point

Clarify rules on tinted windows

WHEN I sent my car for an inspection two years ago, the tinted film on my car's windows was deemed a tinge too dark. It had to be removed for the car to pass the inspection.

However, over the past two years, I have noticed that many cars have windows tinted much darker than mine were. Some of them are so dark that we cannot even see the faces of the drivers and passengers.

It appears that the different inspection centres have differing standards.

It also seems to be the case that the darker tinted film on windows I have seen has been on luxury cars.

Has the Land Transport Authority relaxed its rules in this area?

Any regulation of handicap sticker?

I HAVE noticed that able-bodied people have been using motorised wheelchairs with handicap stickers on them.

For instance, I have seen a maid using a motorised wheelchair to take a child to school. I also once saw a person in a motorised wheelchair at a shopping mall stand up and press a button to call for the lift.

Can anyone just purchase a handicap label to paste on his motorised wheelchair? Is there anybody to oversee the use of such stickers?
