[Straits Times] Enough time for drinks before cut-off

MR CHRISTOPHER Darren Pereira ("Try out less drastic measures first"; Wednesday) can still have time to enjoy drinks with his friends after work, even if the proposals to curb public drinking after 10.30pm are implemented.

I do the same with my colleagues after work at about 5.30pm, and we finish by 7pm to return to our families for dinner and family bonding time.

My point is, there is still sufficient time for a tipple and nice chat among friends before the 10.30pm cut-off. There is no need to stay till the wee hours as friends can always meet again on another day for another round of drinks.

Getting home before 10.30pm means more quality time with one's family and more time for sleep, which is good for health.

Sitting and drinking for hours on end is bad for one's health. Drink-driving, with its fatal consequences, can also be avoided if one stops drinking by the cut-off time.
