I WAS disappointed with the Strata Titles Board's ruling against the management corporation of 7 One North Residences, in favour of the family that wanted to install a grille in its condominium balcony for child safety ("Family wins case to install grille in condo balcony for child's safety"; last Saturday).
As a former chairman of a management council, I can imagine the condo management's dismay, as well as that of other residents.
One has only to look at older apartments here, where there was no restriction on such "cages", and see how these ruin the architectural integrity of the development and reduce the value of the property.
The family concerned could have placed locked grille doors behind the glass doors until the child is at an age to understand the danger of climbing over the balcony wall - which will surely only be in a year or two.
Thankfully I now live in a condo with no balconies except on the ground floor. But I dread to see the future results of this ruling across the island.
