I VERY often see people casually pushing trolleys from supermarkets back to their homes, or abandoning these trolleys in their neighbourhoods.
Supermarkets waste time and money trying to retrieve these trolleys.
Perhaps all the supermarket chains in Singapore could work together to implement a system where customers are required to place a deposit of $5 or $10 each time they use a trolley. This deposit will be returned to the customer upon the return of the trolley. This may deter some people from taking the trolleys home.
I have also noticed parents letting their children sit in trolleys with their shoes on while they shop in supermarkets. This is very unhygienic, as a trolley is a vehicle used for ferrying food items.
Supermarket staff should be present on the shop floor to monitor and ensure that parents do not let their children sit in trolleys.
It is time for supermarkets to exercise better control of their trolleys and ensure that customers use them responsibly.
