[Straits Times] Bouquet

Hospital staff's loving care for late mum

WHEN my late mother was hospitalised in Alexandra Hospital three times in 2013, I saw how the doctors, nurses and other service staff there worked uncomplainingly; attending to patients lovingly, patiently and professionally, even when patients were unreasonable and rude.

One young, heavily pregnant nurse sat with my mother through the night, holding her hand to calm her so she could sleep.

The doctors kept me in the loop about my mother's health with regular phone calls.

The physiotherapists were very diligent, methodical and helpful.

The social worker helped to arrange for efficient and good post-discharge care.

She also helped me in the application for government subsidies to purchase medical equipment for home-care use, for example.

At each discharge, the nurses would wish my mother a fast and full recovery.

Their enthusiasm and friendliness cheered her up.

She died recently and I would like to express my deepest appreciation to all who cared for her so well and lovingly during her stays at Alexandra Hospital.
