THERE has been much debate following last Thursday's report ("PM reacts to meadow of trash that music fans left behind").
Poor habits have formed as the population has increased over the years. We have to nip this growing social problem of littering in the bud.
Organisers of public events - whether they are local or international events - can play a more proactive role in maintaining public cleanliness.
They could remind attendees before and after the event to clear up their litter and to exercise social and civic-mindedness. They must also ensure there are adequate bins available.
Security personnel could be authorised to check the littering situation at these events. If the litter is not cleared, attendees could be barred from leaving the area.
Everyone has a social responsibility to ensure Singapore remains squeaky clean and keeps its image as a litter-free, clean and liveable garden city.
