Keep old military buildings
THE revelation that the recently rediscovered British bunker served as the Singapore Armed Forces' Sembawang Ammunition Depot struck a chord with me ("A secret no more" and "Pre-war British bunker to open its doors to public"; both published on Jan 29).
I was an instructor with the SAF Ammunition Base during my national service in the 1980s.
Today, the SAF and indeed, the Singapore Civil Defence Force and police have since moved out of many of the old British colonial buildings used as their camps and stations.
An increasing number of these old buildings have been demolished. I hope that some of what is left will be preserved or converted to other uses.
They are a reminder of our uniformed services' humbler beginnings and a testimony to the hard work and dedication of our pioneer servicemen who performed their duties in these colonial buildings, in service to our nation.

Difficult for disabled to replace concession pass
APPLYING for an ez-link concession pass for the disabled is a simple process.
All the applicant has to do is visit the TransitLink website, fill in his details, upload a photo and make payment by Nets.
However, if the pass is lost, the disabled person cannot reapply online.
Instead, he has to report the loss, then go to a TransitLink office with his identity card.
He is then charged $18 to cover the cost of the card.
This is a difficult procedure, especially for those with disabilities.
TransitLink could be more proactive in helping people with disabilities.
