[Straits Times] Service, image of cabbies need work

AS A regular taxi passenger, I notice that taxi drivers are sometimes quite arrogant and impatient - they do not even step out to help passengers carry their bags to the boot, except at the airport. Once I even saw a taxi driver raise his voice because the passenger took a while to load things into the boot.

Many taxi drivers also travel at high speeds. Perhaps they are in such a hurry so that they can pick up as many passengers as possible.

Some even use one hand to handle the steering wheel and leave the other free. This can be dangerous to themselves and the passengers.

In Japan, most taxi drivers wear a uniform and they look very smart and neat. Perhaps, all taxi drivers here should do that too to portray a good image.
