[Today] Half-day childcare programme meets some parents’ needs

We thank Mr Jake Goh for his feedback in “Why subsidise half-day childcare centres, but not kindergartens?” (Jan 29). Childcare centres are required to provide full-day services. Currently, a majority of children in childcare attend a full-day programme.

To better cater for families with different needs, childcare centres are also allowed the flexibility to offer types of services such as half-day programmes. This will benefit parents who have alternative care arrangements for their children.

Some parents prefer programmes that operate during school holidays and on Saturdays, as well as services catering for children as young as two months. Most kindergartens do not provide such services.
