[Straits Times] Clamp down on festive surcharges

IS IT reasonable to charge customers higher prices several weeks before festive seasons, like Chinese New Year, begin?

I went to a hairstylist last week and was a little shocked when I was told that there would be a surcharge of $10 on top of the cut-and-blow charge of $48.

Why are beauty parlours allowed to charge extra just because of the festive season? Will they start doing this for Christmas as well? Will other businesses follow suit?

There should be some governing body to censure this practice.
