WE THANK Mr Lim Wah Fong for his feedback ("Lack of Mandarin TV shows"; last Thursday).
Like Mr Lim, StarHub recognises the benefits of making available good-quality Mandarin television programmes to our younger viewers.
We offer a good mix of entertaining and educational Mandarin programmes, equipped with Chinese subtitles, targeting pre-schoolers and schoolgoing children, to help them learn Mandarin in an enjoyable way.
StarHub's complimentary Mandarin channel E City (StarHub TV Channel 111/825) currently airs edutainment programmes our younger audience can enjoy, such as Idiom Science, an award-winning TV series that teaches Chinese idioms to children while presenting scientific facts, and Momo's Paradise, an educational programme that encourages pre-schoolers to sing and dance along.
StarHub's locally produced programmes, which are also currently screening on E City, include ZooMoo's Got Brains, a fun-filled game show packed with interesting animal facts, and Jump Class, a family-friendly drama serial about a boy who has the ability to travel between two worlds.
Jump Class is adapted from the comic strip of the same name by local comic artist Johnny Lau, the creator of Mr Kiasu.
On the educational front, parents who would like to boost their primary school children's Chinese-language proficiency can sign up for EEva's Learning Channel (StarHub TV Channel 325).
This learning initiative by StarHub showcases a curriculum specially designed for curious minds, featuring rich graphics, clear voiceovers and step-by-step guidance.
