THERE have been many readers writing in about poor bus service, including infrequency, overcrowding and dangerous driving.
It seems that the Bus Service Enhancement Programme has not been effective. More buses do not equate to better, or at least improved, bus service.
This needs the Land Transport Authority's serious attention.
Recently, I have experienced the same issues: buses consistently arriving late, crowding on buses so severe that the doors can barely open and close, and the very poor driving habits of bus drivers, such as jamming on the brakes unnecessarily.
I can understand buses being late and overcrowded at times, but the bad and, sometimes, dangerous habit of braking inappropriately is unwarranted.
Is it difficult to apply the brakes smoothly and consistently? Or is it poor training and/or skills?
Bus passengers deserve comfortable and timely service whenever possible, but should enjoy smooth and safe service all the time.
