Simple but touching act of kindness
ON JAN 26, at around 3pm, I was on a bus along Tanjong Katong Road and saw an elderly woman with a cane alighting from the bus.
A girl wearing a Tanjong Katong Girls' School uniform was at the bus stop. She smiled and helped the old woman onto the kerb before going on her way.
It was an impromptu and simple act, yet so beautiful and touching. This should be the Singapore way of life.

Fast and good service despite lunch crowd
LAST Christmas, my wife, infant child and I visited Sushi Tei in Tampines 1 for lunch.
We queued for about 15 minutes and were attended to by Ms Germaine, who took the effort to settle my child properly.
After ordering, we were surprised to be served our food in about five minutes, even though the restaurant was crowded.
Such good service attitude and efficiency deserve to be applauded. We thank the staff of Sushi Tei for the good experience and look forward to our next visit.

Kind help to get earlier appointment
MY HUSBAND is suffering from a serious medical condition, and an eye problem added to his discomfort.
I approached the Singapore National Eye Centre to see if I could get him an earlier appointment to see an ophthalmologist.
Mr Roch Sebestian of the appointments department was extremely kind, and assured me that he would check regularly to see if any patient's appointment had been postponed or cancelled, so my husband could take that slot.
Thanks to him, my husband managed to get an earlier appointment.
I am grateful to Mr Sebestian. Such public service is indeed exemplary and deserves acknowledgement.

Extra special visit to HortPark
MY HUSBAND and I visited HortPark on Feb 20 and were impressed by the commitment and passion of two workers tending the fruit, vegetable and herb gardens there - Toon Ong and Mr Ang.
Toon Ong took the initiative to show us a merbok roosting on a shrub, and educated us on the different types of plants at the park. We were also very pleased with Mr Ang's diligence in tending the herb garden. He, too, showed us around and educated us on the plants.
Both are exemplary workers with strong initiative and drive. Such workers are a rare find.
We hope their employers will consider giving such staff the role of park ambassador, and reward them with a work performance bonus, for making visitors' experience to the park extra special and much more fruitful.
