I APPLAUD the great effort and initiative by groups and organisations in helping students from low-income families ensure that they do not lose out to their counterparts from middle-income and well-to-do families who can afford private tuition ("Needy students get more private tuition help"; yesterday).
This will also help to ensure that the students, especially teenage ones, do not fall into bad company during their free time after school, as they can now attend tuition classes.
However, I hope tuition will not replace the curriculum and the teachers' touch in school, as the education of their charges is still the school teachers' main responsibility. They can offer extra classes after school for deserving students.
