We refer to the letter “Ministries should publish reports on impact of schemes” (May 8). The Government agrees with the need for proper accountability for our public spending.
The Ministry of Finance releases the Singapore Public Sector Outcomes Review (SPOR) every two years on behalf of the Government to take stock of how Singapore has fared in healthcare, transportation, public housing, community development, economic development, security, and governance. The annual Budget documents provide details of every ministry’s expenditure and the key performance indicators related to their portfolios.
Individual ministries also produce regular reports and statistics on performance in their domain areas, most of which are available on their respective websites. The ComCare Annual Report by the Ministry of Social and Family Development, the Occupational Safety and Health Division Annual Report by the Ministry of Manpower and the Annual Crime Brief by the Singapore Police Force are examples of such reports.
In addition, all statutory boards publish annual reports. For example, the Central Provident Fund Board, the Housing and Development Board and the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore published the performance of key initiatives such as the Workfare Income Supplement scheme, stabilisation policies for the housing resale market and the Wage Credit Scheme in their latest annual reports.
