Act of neighbourly kindness
WHEN I approached my car on the morning of March 30, I was shocked to see that my car's two rear windows were covered with thick transparent plastic sheets.
I thought someone had broken my car's windows. Upon closer inspection, however, I found that both the windows were half-open and that someone had covered them with the plastic sheets.
I found a note inside my car informing me that the writer had found my rear car windows half-open and covered them.
He left his mobile number so I could return the small magnets he had used to hold one of the plastic sheets in place.
I called and later met this good Samaritan, Mr David Low Jui Kwang. It turned out that I had left the windows open after washing my car a few days earlier.
Mr Low told me that he had put up the plastic sheets to protect my car from the rain.
He refused to accept a box of chocolates and small cakes as my token of appreciation for his actions and said he was only doing his neighbourly duty.
I was overwhelmed by Mr Low's kind act. People like him do Singapore proud.

Stranger pays son's bus fare
ON THE morning of April 20, my son boarded SMRT bus service 966 in Petir Road with a new ez-link automatic top-up fare card, which was not yet activated.
Thus, the card was rejected by the fare machine for my son's bus ride to camp.
He was in a dilemma as he had no small change, until a woman settled his fare.
We are extremely grateful to her for her kind gesture, without which, my son would have been late in reporting to camp.

Brightening up dark times
MY FAMILY and I would like to express our appreciation and gratitude to Dr Norhisham Main, nurse Li Yongquan, medical social worker Cheong Ee May, the nurses of Alexandra Hospital's palliative clinic, and all the staff who cared for my father, Mr Lee Kim Lye, when he was a patient there.
Dr Norhisham and Mr Li touched my family with their compassion, empathy, and patience.
While my father's illness was beyond the reach of medicine towards the end, each encounter with Dr Norhisham and Mr Li was healing and affirming, because of the compassion and empathy they demonstrated.
They even took time to visit my father at Dover Park Hospice in the final days of his life. They brought rays of sunlight into days that were sad. My family and I are grateful for their care and compassion.
